IZTÜ Galen Science Day

Izmir Tınaztepe University, the first health-themed university in the Aegean region, is opening the 2021-2022 academic year with an important scientific event. Research in the field of health and the development of innovative medical technologies are among the priorities of Izmir Tınaztepe University. In this context, we are organising the ‘Galen Science Days’ event on 9 September 2021 to mark the opening of the research laboratory named after Galen, who was born in Izmir-Bergama.

We have chosen ‘New Horizons in Vaccines and Medicines’ as the theme for this year's Galen Science Days. This event, which will feature an opening scientific speech by Özlem Türeci, one of the inventors of the mRNA vaccine, a groundbreaking development in medicine and the most effective weapon against the Covid-19 pandemic, will also bring together many speakers renowned for their internationally acclaimed research. Mayda Gürsel and Hakan Akbulut from our country will present their domestic Covid-19 vaccine studies. Evren Alıcı from Sweden will be with us with his studies on NK immune cells derived from stem cells. Fatih Uçkun, Aykut Üren and Özgür Şahin from the USA will present their studies on developing targeted drugs for cancer.

The Galen Science Days event will take place at the İZTÜ Campus, and both online and in-person participation will be possible.

Simultaneous interpretation will be provided during the event, which will be held in English.
