About

The Turkish Virology Consortium (TVC)  is a new initiative to bring together academicians and researchers working on different aspects of virology.

Turkish Virology Consortium aims to bring together the leading virologists working on clinically important viruses in Turkey under an incorporative roof of Global Virus Network (GVN). The consortium members from different disciplines will interact both internally and internationally via GVN to address challenging issues in virology in the region.

The Consortium will organize short courses in virology and participate in joint initiatives with national and international partners including GVN. Consortium members will maximize their innovative potential by sharing research sources, facilities, and expertise to develop novel diagnostic and preventive tools in virology and will have chance to discuss emerging opportunities for surveillance, prevention, and therapy of infectious diseases at on site and online scientific meetings as well as workshops. Consortium members will be able to join different task forces developed by GVN.

Furthermore, TVC will lead the members to apply for multi-centered and joint grant applications on development, evaluation, and testing of diagnostics, therapeutics, treatments and vaccines for viral epidemics and pandemics that pose a threat to public health will be submitted to Turkish funding agencies such as TUBITAK and TUSEB, as well as international public, private and charity institutions.

Current members of the Consortium have a large array of research interest ranging from Sars-Cov-2 to CCHFV, Hantaviruses, West Nile Virus, Hepatitis B and C viruses and so on. There is also a wide range of interest from epidemiology to diagnostic and vaccinology. Up to date, TVC encompasses 12 laboratories located in seven universities from four major cities including Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir and Antalya.

We hope that the Consortium will serve as a platform for lunching concerted actions on major challenges of viral infections in the region, with solid scientific and strategic support from GVN.
